Organizing methods for those who say “I bought too many clothes to tidy up the closet”
When you buy new clothes with the arrival of the new season, have you thought about the reason why?
I often hear about the trouble people have when they buy too many clothes and then don’t have enough space for these clothes in their closet.
There are a variety of reasons for buying too many clothes, including shopping as a hobby, releasing stress, impulse buying, somehow feeling like you don’t have enough clothes, and the like. Considering why you buy too many clothes will reduce the failure in closet storage as well.
When clothes won’t fit neatly into the closet, people tend to think about buying storage goods and storage furniture as a means to solve the problem.
In the case of buying too many clothes, however, you need to figure out ways to organize more than storage methods.
Here are some ways of organizing to solve the problem of buying too many clothes to tidy up the closet.
[1] Sort into groups (sort by color and shape)
[2] Dispose of clothes as necessary (sell, hand down)
[3] Develop ways of purchasing (decide rules for shopping)
[4] Develop storage methods (how to choose hangers, how to use drawers)
[1] Sort into groups (sort by color and shape)
Sorting into groups, means sorting the clothes in your closet by color and shape. Sort your clothes further by type after sorting them by type of clothes, such as tops, bottoms, dresses, suits, and the like. Tops can be sorted into jackets and inner wear (blouses, cut-and-sewn), inner wear can be sorted into long-sleeve and short-sleeve, and so on. You can then sort these groups further by color and application.
When you sort out all of the clothes you own in detail this way, you realize that you have multiple clothes of the same color and application.
Consider your lifestyle and then figure out the application and color of clothes you need, as well as the type of clothes that you buy often. When you do this, it becomes easier to think about the items that don’t need to buy and those that you should buy, which in turn leads to shopping without waste.
[2] Dispose of clothes as necessary (sell, hand down)
Dispose of clothes as necessary, means taking clothes that you don’t often wear and selling them to thrift shops, donating them, and so on.
When selling clothes to thrift shops, it is easier to sell items that are new or like new, so it would be wise to sell clothes that you were mistaken in buying and don’t wear much as soon as possible. If you buy additional items to compensate for the mistake in order to wear the first item, you will fill your closet with more and more clothes, which would be increasingly difficult to organize.
Donating items to organizations that are soliciting donations is a good way to dispose of items that the thrift shops don’t buy. You can search for such organizations using keywords such as, donating clothes. You can hand down clothes that you don’t wear to your friends, but it might be better to donate them, rather than cluttering up your friends’ closets.
[3] Develop ways of purchasing (decide rules for shopping)
Develop ways of purchasing, means deciding on rules for shopping.
By deciding on the amount of clothes that you need to have and making rules for buying replacements as needed, you can avoid cases where you have increased the amount of clothes before you know it.
If you have a hobby of shopping, or if you shop to release stress, you should be careful about what items you buy. It is a good idea to buy, small items and things that are easy to throw away. Choose the bare minimum of basic clothes, and go with accessories, scarves, and small items that are not bulky and can easily be stored in the closet.
Also, you would do well to take a good hard look at whether or not trendy clothes really suit you before buying them, because they are easy to sell at low prices.
[4] Develop storage methods (how to choose hangers, how to use drawers)
Finally, develop storage methods, means solutions in the event that you are implementing the organizing methods described above but are still not tidying up the closet.
The key point in selecting hangers is to make all of the hangers used in one place uniform. Using the same hangers will make the height of the shoulder on the hangers uniform, which in turn will make it easier to get your clothes. Use the thinnest hangers possible if you have a lot of clothes to hang.
Using hangers processed with non-slip material when hanging blouses, cardigans, and the like will prevent them from falling off in the closet, and it will be easier to get your clothes.
The way to use the drawers is to not fold and stack your clothes in them, but rather to use bookstands and partitions to store your clothes in a way that is easy for you to get them.
If you develop storage methods and sort into groups when storing clothes not in the closet in your home but in trunk room storage spaces, it will be easier to manage the clothes in the trunk room.
When you sort the clothes that you have into groups you eliminate waste in shopping, and as you further develop your ways of buying, you can develop your own kind of fashion. Get a firm grasp on the clothes that you have and wisely enjoy your fashion.
